It’s that time of year: there is a chill in the air, leaves are falling, and for us Seattleites, rain is a daily occurrence. With Halloween just around the corner, social media is all abuzz with pumpkin spice latte selfies, pictures of small children posing in pumpkin patches, and recipes for pumpkin bars, muffins, pies (I could go on and on – there seems no end to the culinary gymnastics of the pumpkin). No other gourd captures the spotlight like this one. It is no surprise, then, that pumpkin supplements for pets are at the forefront of pet blogs and Facebook groups. Since I’m a shameless “joiner”, this blog is no exception. This month, Chewy sent us a pumpkin supplement, Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up!, to review.
Weruva is a food company whose philosophy is “Keep it Simple. Keep it Safe.” A quick review of their website, and I learned that this company was started by a couple with three cats (and later, a dog) who wanted to provide the best, natural pet food for their pets (and ours). Their food is made in a factory along with human food, using many of the ingredients and processes that are used in products made for people. Score one for Weruva, because that’s just awesome.
After reviewing the list of available products for review, I decided on Weruva’s Pumpkin Patch-Up! supplements. With Luna’s stomach issues, she was a pumpkin veteran: I’ve already been giving a teaspoon or so of plain pumpkin puree (NOT the canned pumpkin pie stuff with the spices) to her in her food as a treat, so this piqued my interest. Seeing that the supplement was made from just two ingredients (yes, two: pumpkin and water) was a major plus for me. Score another one for Weruva for not adding ingredients I cannot pronounce.
Next, we waited for the product. Luna has learned to recognize the sound of the mail truck, and the footsteps of our mail carrier. I’m not so sure that’s a good thing. (Between you and me, the mail carrier and I should be best friends by now, but since she looks like more of a beer person than a wine person, I’m afraid it just wouldn’t work out).
Fast forward to me attempting to retrieve the package from our front step in my pajamas without being seen by the neighbors (play Mission Impossible theme song) and bringing it inside to Luna. She knew immediately it was for her; she loves when Chewy sends her things:
She practically tears open the box all on her own, and since it’s so adorable, I let her.
Trying to get her to sit still with the product is quite a challenge:
She’s usually more interested in tearing open the package than saying “cheese”.
Ultimately, though, we got one that isn’t horrible:
(Note to self [or Santa]: I REALLY need a better camera)
The box was adorable, a major plus, because I can leave it out on my counter and it looks like it could be part of my fall decor. (Just go with it, it’s a girl thing). The package contained 12 individual 1.05 ounce pouches of the pumpkin supplement, just the perfect amount for Luna:
(They come in 2.8 ounce pouches too, with the directions to refrigerate any opened and unused portions).
I added it to Luna’s next meal, and she ate it up like a college freshman cheerleader downing a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. Major win for Weruva: Luna loved it.
