Uh-oh, stomach pain

Luna wasn’t feeling well on Friday.

stomach pain

Dr. Kim thinks there are two things going on with her: 1) she probably has a strain/sprain in her hind end from when she was running that day, and 2) we may be dealing with Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Irritable Bowel Syndrome because of her stomach pain and other bathroom issues.  We’ve been dealing with the toileting issues for a while now, which we’ve been trying to manage with the vet’s help, but the stomach pain/tenderness is new.  She’s currently on Flagyl and Pepcid and on a sensitive stomach diet, but I’m not so sure it’s working.  This will apparently be a continuing saga.

In the meantime, I’ve been doing some research on Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and will have a post up shortly in Learning.  I’d love to hear your input if you’ve had the same or similar issues.

Many thanks to Sugar the Golden Retriever and Dachsund Nola for hosting the Black and White Sunday photo blog hop, and to The Cat on My Head for the Selfie Sunday Blog Hop

  1. Oh! Luna. sending you Golden Healing Thoughts. Sugar had issues when she eats “something” not right/good due to her allergies. You may one to do an allergy test. There are dog food that helps digestion, ash your vet. Sunday is a good day to relax and rest. Golden Woofs

  2. Poor Luna, I hope she feels better soon. Two issues at once is so hard. We have experience with a cat with Irritable bowel, but not a dog.

    P.S.: Lovely picture.

  3. Oh poor Luna. I hope she feels better soon. One of my kids had irritable bowel after an infection. Traditional medication was very important. However, it improved with additional special high strength probiotics, a strict diet and some naturopathic remedies. I am working on a post about probiotics and holistic health care. XS

  4. Hope Luna feels better soon! I’m not sure how this would work for a chronic stomach illness but if Mr. N has digestive issues, I sprinkle some slippery elm powder in his food. We use the one Honest Kitchen makes.

  5. I am so sorry that Luna is feeling bad. It is so hard to watch them hurt with anything, but belly aches are especially difficult. We are sending good thoughts and prayers your way. ♥

    • Oh I know, thank you for your kind words. We’re working through it, but she is definitely much better today.

  6. I’m glad to hear that Luna is feeling better. I was hoping she just had a day of garbage gut. That happens to my pug quite often, especially during the spring and summer months. He tends to snack on the grass, and that “salad” just doesn’t agree with him!

    • Thanks, Jean. She definitely is feeling better, but the bathroom issues persist. It’s not affecting her playfulness, though! From what I’ve been reading on IBS/IBD, I suspect that we’ll be working closely with our vet in the coming weeks to figure this out.
