Dangerous Foods for Dogs

dangerous foods for dogsWhile I’m sure you, the savvy greyhound parent, already know that chocolate is toxic to dogs, did you know that many other human foods are dangerous too?  According to TrustedHousesitters.com, here is a list of foods that you should refrain from giving to Fido:

  • Chocolate
  • Caffeine
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Onions
  • Avocado
  • Grapes and Raisins
  • Alcohol
  • Bones and fat

In addition to the above, the ASPCA warns against feeding your dog these items:

  • Raw bread dough
  • Moldy foods  (really? who would do that?)
  • Hops
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Xylitol – a sugar substitute found in sugar free gum (Read here for a recent story about this sweetener’s deadly consequences).

Your sweet pup trusts you to give him the best that life can offer, however, “the best” is not a beer during a thunderstorm or a raucous party.

If you have any reservations about what is okay to give your dog, consult your veterinarian.  As for me, I’m going to stick to the dog food and treats that we buy specifically for Luna.
